Fish Farm

We are "Fishers of Men..."

 Fish Farm

Haiti must be one of the most unlucky countries in the world! Can you imagine an island nation with almost no marine life? The lakes in Haiti are very overfished. The people are desperate for food, so the fish are caught before they have the chance to grow large and healthy. The ocean waters around the island have been polluted by runoff and erosion. Fishermen must go far out in the ocean to catch fish, but most Haitians can't afford seaworthy boats. It is a terrible dilemma.

With special help from CTN, Bob D'Andrea, and "In Memory of Molly," we were able to build the Tilapia Fish Farm and Training Center. Expert Hans Geissler, of Morningstar Fishermen, came to Haiti to set up the fish farm and teach us how to raise tilapia. We began with 275 baby fish, and now we have over 20,000 fish of all sizes.

"They were mending their nets. And straightway he called them"

Mark 1:19b-20a

Fish Farm Bobby and Joel

The man with Bobby is Joel Estime. He is a wonderful family man and trusted Love A Child employee. You may not believe this, but Joel used to be a witch doctor. He came to the Lord, and now he shares the Gospel with others who still practice Voodoo. He manages the Tilapia Fish Farm and helps other Haitians learn to help themselves. How appropriate that he was baptised in one of the fish tanks!

"...for they were fishers. And Jesus said unto them, Come after me, and I will make you

fishers of men." Mark 1:16b-17

Bobby with Tilapia

These fish provide food for our orphanage and school children. Bobby is proud of the fish, but he doesn't eat them. He says, "I've had them since they were babies, and I love 'em! I can't eat them!"

This Tilapia Farm and Training Center gives the Haitian people two things they desperately need, food and an opportunity to learn to feed themselves. Please consider a gift to Love A Child, in any amount, to help with projects like this.  We want to establish more fish farms in Haiti!
