A Haitian Creole Proverb...
Actually, this parable means, "don't be afraid of work and make a little money, and don't have pride, or you won't eat!

This poor family does what it can to make a living, but there is not enough food to go around. The majority of Haitians do not eat three meals a day...they are lucky if they get "one meal a day." Many children do not eat for two or three days, and in many areas, mothers are forced to sell one child in order to feed the others. This must be so very painful.
We are so blessed to have food to share with good organizations throughout Haiti who help us get this food to "where it is needed most."
This time, Love A Child food sacks were filled with food and beautiful new tennis shoes to reach other areas of Haiti. These sacks went "all the way to Cape Haitian," so very far from us. Claude Mondesir is one of our partners, he carried these items all the way to Cape Haitian to give to the poor. When he arrived, the people first formed a "circle" in the middle of the village area...

They prayed, and then he explained to the people that this food was donated by Feed My Starving Children, and that Love A Child partners paid for the transportation from the States all the way to their little village in Haiti.

Claude explained that the new tennis shoes were a gift from World Vision. For most, this would be the "first pair of new tennis shoes" they have ever received. Everyone was excited! Grandma was one of the first to get her sack full of goodies! |
Don't expect a big grin from any Haitians, they rarely ever smile for photos. To the majority of Haitians when taking a photo it is very "serious." They don't even smile when they get married.
They loved the new tennis shoes and they were so happy to get food!

What a blessing...food and shoes!

It took a lot of "sacks full of love" for all these hundreds of people and their families. We were so thankful to have the supplies to give to them.

These people were waiting and "hoping" to get a sack full of food and tennis shoes!

The distribution continued...

...for most of the day.

All receiving the blessings left with a little hope.

We want to thank World Vision once again, for the wonderful donation of brand new tennis shoes! Just like the ladies in Le Tant, the people in Cape Haitian left with a smile.

These tennis shoes are "very expensive," and will last a long, long time.

This distribution was in Cape Haitian. Love A Child works in many villages, so be sure to see the next journal!
Thanks to everyone who has a heart for the poor, and who has helped us get this food to Haiti! The food and the tennis shoes were an "answer to prayer!"
God bless you,
Sherry
