Hurricane Ike's Deadly Blow to Haiti...

September 8, 2008

WARNING:  THERE ARE GRAPHIC PHOTOS IN THIS JOURNAL SO IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED, YOU WILL NEED TO STOP READING AT THE WARNING SIGN BELOW.

Tropical Storm Fay, Hurricanes Gustav, Hanna and Ike have pounded Haiti with great wind force and heavy rains which created deadly mud-slides and flooding.   Nelio, our Haitian Director, tried to make it to Gonaives yesterday to bring his mother to a safe area, but could not get through.

He stops where huge trucks are stuck while other vehicles have turned over.

Much Needed help...

Heavy equipment was finally brought in to try to open some of the roads.

These pictures were taken by Nelio in the town of Cabaret where the flood waters have taken many houses and many lives.  (The map below shows red arrows marking the areas I mentioned yesterday and today.)

WARNING: GRAPHIC PHOTOS AHEAD

When Nelio sent me these pictures, he told me he cried when he saw the reality of the flood.    I've been crying since I received these pictures and many more.

You won't see these on Fox News or CNN.

I am having a hard time trying to do this journal because I have been so sad since I have received these pictures and more.

Right now, we are waiting for the waters to go down and roads to open enough to get food and emergency items to those in need.   The roofs have blown off our schools in the mountains, the gardens of the poor have been destroyed, their little homes or huts gone.   Everything they have is gone or covered in mud.

But these little lives and many more can never be replaced.

I am at a loss for words as to what to say to you.    As soon as we can get supplies through, we will be taking them.   Your gift is desperately needed now...  large or small.   If you can possibly call a gift in on your credit card of $1,000, $500, $100 or whatever the Lord lays upon your heart - the widow's mite - everything is appreciated.   Please call the Tampa Office at:  1-813-621-7263 and give by credit card if possible.    If you would like to donate online, please click here to donate now.   We are going to need to get food, clothing, medicines, tents, blankets and much more to these families.

I am so sorry to have shared this with you, but thank you for praying, for giving, for your heart of love and compassion.

Sherry

P. S.  We are in need of "camping tents," any size.  These would provide a temporary shelter for a poor family, please make sure it is in good condition and boxed well enough to send it into rugged areas.  Please ship to Love A Child, Inc. 9304 Camden Field Parkway, Riverview, FL  33578.   We can take these tents along with the "sponsored family" emergency supplies (food, clothing, medicine, etc) to those in need.   Your generous financial support is needed now more than ever.

God Bless You,

Sherry
