Big Mama is Here...

March 1, 2010

We often use the Creole Proverb..."Anpil men, chay pa lou."  It means with many hands, the load is not heavy; how true this is.

We are so thankful for all those who give tirelessly on the mission field.  Rad, one of our Love A Child employees, has been in Haiti for almost two weeks helping at the LAC Disaster Relief Center.

He made a trip right after the earthquake to bring the much needed x-ray equipment to us, and he even taught our staff how to use it.  A special thank you goes to Joyce Meyer Ministries - Hand of Hope for donating this needed equipment.  It helps the medical staff make quick and accurate treatment decisions for our patients.

Now, Rad is here helping Bob and Carole while Bobby and I are getting a little rest. Rad sent some information and a few pictures of "Big Mama" and the cooking staff that I want to share with you.

Finally, after the long wait in Miami and time at the seaport in Haiti, our fully loaded mobile kitchen, BIG MAMA, is in Fond Parisien and ready for use.  We are so thankful for Jeff, his nephew Eric and his friend Joe who went after the kitchen over the weekend.  The ambulance was the only vehicle strong enough to pull our huge kitchen.  We tried a towing service here in Haiti, but they were not able to move the kitchen.  Our ambulance pulled the kitchen along the narrow Haitian roads filled with pot holes, donkeys and goats.  Fortunately, the kitchen made it in "one piece."

Here is the ambulance and our Canadian friends pulling Big Mama onto our Love A Child property.

When the cooking staff saw Big Mama coming in the drive, they began clapping their hands, dancing and praising the Lord for this blessing.

Chef Lucky is the head cook for the LAC Disaster Relief Center.  He is responsible for feeding all the patients, the doctors and nurses three delicious and nutritious meals every day.  (We are so thankful that he is cooking for all the patients now. Our LAC staff did it for the first month.  Click here to see how we were serving up the food.)  He is a Cordon Bleu trained chef, and has worked side by side with some of the best in the industry.  Chef Lucky is in the green stripped shirt.

He knows a good kitchen when he sees one, and he loves "Big Mama" so much that he doesn't want to come out of it.  Chef Lucky and his personally selected and trained staff have worked tirelessly since the first week the recovery hospital was established.  They love the Blessing of Big Mama, and will begin using her immediately.

Rad gave us this update from Fond Parisien this morning...

Chef Lucky almost slept in Big Mama last night!  Yesterday, after working hard to set the kitchen up by placing it exactly where Chef Lucky wanted it, leveling it out, securing it, and hooking up the water and drainage, Jeff and his team of "Canadian Mounties" came to the rescue again. They fired up the kitchen's on-board generator to run the refrigerators, freezers, lighting and even air conditioning.  The generator worked perfectly and Chef was all smiles.  Today he will pressure wash the interior and get it spic and span... ready to fe manje or "cook for the multitudes. "

Special thanks to the Richard W. Hotes Foundation for the donation of this big, beautiful, wonderful mobile kitchen to feed the multitudes! Now, we can use those wonderful propane stoves to cook for all 600 of our school children and many others who are in our care.  Thanks again to Dod, President of Rice Bowls, for those wonderful propane stoves!  Just like the Haitians say, "anpil men, chay pa lou."   With many hands, the load is not heavy!

Many hands help in many different ways, and your continued prayers and financial gifts help us with the load.  The needs are many! If you would like to give a gift to our Earthquake Disaster Relief Fund, please click on the red button below and donate now.
